Reminiscing Russia...

This post goes out to everyone who's moved around and especially to those whom live, or have lived in Russia. I was sad to leave my home country when I first heard at the age of 10 that me and my family might be off to live in Moscow, Russia... I couldn't have thought of a worst thing. Now I am happy and grateful to have called Russia my home for 8 years. To say the least, it was a change of a lifetime. The adaptation took a while not gonna lie, but its this process thats made me who I am today.

Moscow... Oh that sweet Moscow that so many fear and many wont see. Moscow wont probably be picked as the #1 choice for a vacation, but I miss it. The noise, the pollution, the traffic, the language, the people, yes part of what makes Russia, I do sometimes miss it now. Because beneath all small faults lies something greater... A country so old and full of history, great and terrible, fascinating and exciting, beautiful in its own way.

8 years I spend there. 8 Wonderful and eventful years I wouldn't change at all.

There are its ups and downs like everywhere, but for the most part, you know youve found something great when you cant stop thinking about it. I would have never thought that I would have learnt to love something that in my home country, some people despise. Yes I have my hatred towards the history between our countries, and I am 100% Finnish and always will be. But Russia will hold a place with me forever.

less pictures more talk

After two weeks of being back in Finland I can safely say that I have been terrible with keeping up the blogging. Although I said to myself I wouldn't let it happen... it did. To be honest it has been a lack of time as well as inspiration to take pictures that have led to this. It is time to change now as I have settled into my new home, started work, and began my so called summer break. I am going to be working all summer really, and that is why I would say it is a so called "break" as it really revolves around work.

Hopefully soon I can start wearing summer clothes, photographing more and really keeping up with the daily, weekly, blogging. Until then I will try my best to show off some of finland and some must go to spots in Helsinki. Stay patient.

Vappu, or first of may did just pass and we had such an amazing celebration. I havent been in Finland for about 10 years for this holiday and I was so hyped up for it! On vappuaatto, me and my boyfriend took it easy, having a nice dinner at home after which we headed to Helsinki where we joined my parents and some friends for champagne at a boat. Soon to follow was some drinks at a friends flat after which we headed back home.

Now on Vappupäivä we had a lot planned. Well it wasnt all planned as I was unsure what we were attendind and what not. However the day started with me joining my whole family at Kaivopuisto (a popular park in helsinki) con champagne, after which we started heading to our lunch spot where my boyfriend joined us as well. After the delicious food we (me + my boyfriend) took of to visit a friends brunch at her house. (no food was eaten as we were so stuffed unfortunately), but were served some delicious mimosas. From there we headed to Hartwall Areena to watch Finland vs. Russia hockey match with the family. This was such a nice little break from the drinks and a little bit of a different experience. Well after the game it was time for some food apparently, so we all headed to my parents house to enjoy some steaks for dinner. The day ended with the youngsters heading into town to a bar and celebrating, just a little.

lomakuume

Lomakuume, or otherwise known as Holiday Fever is what is I have right now. I am so ready to just pack my bags and go someplace warm... Somewhere with a beach, crystal clear waters and sand as soft as silk. The cold weather has gotten the best of me, and although I have managed to stay healthy (no flu for this semester!) I need the warmth and sunshine, oh and a little tan wouldn't kill. It was probably the beginning of this week that got me to really set my mind to this as it has been such sunny days in Glasgow (mind that these only come around a few times a year).

I do love the Finnish summer, nothing wrong with it at all, and Im going there soon yay! So whats the hurry? Well its not summer yet in Finland... and it wont be for a while. It really starts to hit only July... Must say for those who have never been to Finland, summer's are really something else.

I am going to be starting work right away as well once I go back home so it might be hard to just get up and go... But we can plan right? And I really do hope that I get to go somewhere during the summer, meaning a holiday, in a different country.

To share some holiday feelings, heres a few pictures from some past trips.

holiday within a holiday

the lack of posts has been terrible! however there is a small excuse that I have.
a week ago I took a small trip back home to Finland, and I am still here. That shouldn't really be an excuse, but there has been a lot going on and I am just enjoying my time here.

Small post though about Estonia! Took a small trip there on a wednesday for a day so thought to write about that and recommend also some places to visit there.

1. Old town, a definite must see (walk all the way to the top, great view)

2. Places to eat

3. Reede, a great shop with some great brands
